Everything happens on the East side, it seems. The most recent trip was to Kion Lounge. The guy who gustatorily enjoyed my favorite New York chocolate cake had a new-found love of sushi. So to sushi we went.

Kion lounge also boasts a range of Peruvian dishes, which is also fitting since said friend is going on a five week backpacking tour of Peru. It's hot in June in the city, so we went for a bunch of cold dishes.

First up, the Grande ceviche platter, which is not very grande, but still pretty tasty. Different ceviches served in a variety of "bowls" (namely, hollowed-out cucumbers) provided a tart, cool starter. Noteworthy -- the mixto ceviche (including squid), and the salmon and salmon roe.

Then there were the appetizers. Decent ones at that. One tried the blue potatos and cheese, which apparently is a common dish in Peru. Not bad, but the sauce kind of reminded me of a glorified Velveeta. So if you like that, more power to you. The other appetizers (grilled vegetable salad, avocado salad, and miso soup were the ones we tried) were standard.

Then, the entrees. And since we had to wait a seemingly inexorable amount of time for our sushi rolls, the drinks were on the waitress. The sushi chef was retardedly slow. And they messed up my order; instead of getting a delectable-sounding Spider roll (including avocado, goat cheese, and soft shell crab), I got a spicy tuna rolll. Decent. But I wanted my soft shell crab. But the steak dish, Entrana, was divine.

Finally, we topped off the evening with the dessert sampler, which included chocolate-filled deep-fried wontons, ice cream (green tea and ginger), a mango ice cream motchi ball, some token Poky sticks, and finally tempura-battered fruit. The best of the fruit tempura -- the strawberry. Yum. Oh, and pisco (Peruvian liquor) for the after-dinner drink.

Ambiance-wise, it was not bad. The bathroom boasts backlit marble and a blue glass-like door, which was kind of cool. The bar was ok, there was a pretty wall-waterfall, and the downstairs had a DJ, bar, and dance floor. The upstairs balcony overlooked the downstairs, which didn't necessarily create that much of an open feel.

Would I go back? I don't know. Bang for buck the wait was long for the actual food, the ambiance was nice, but the food? Eh.
